Pirate Fest Open House

RSL will hold its Volunteer Open House for Piratefest on Saturday, July 18.  We need cast to inhabit our village of Fort Royal, Martinique -- villagers, aristocracy, militia, French military, and of course PIRATES!

Piratefest does not have a specific year like Faire, but it is the Golden Age of Piracy, around the first half of the 18th Century. We're quite flexible in casting historical pirates, even if we have to stretch it a bit to rationalize them being alive at the same time and all in the same place.

Veterans may fill out paperwork in the Barnes Room of the NPDC, 425 Spencer Road, St. Peters, from 10 to noon. We will take a noon to 1 pm lunch break and set up displays in the Mercy Room to better showcase our event for newbies. The Open House will continue from 1 pm to 5 pm. Veterans are asked to be in garb and accent.

Piratefest also needs support staff (The Black Raven Crewe) who work behind-the-scenes to keep our patrons and cast happy and healthy and our site at its best. We also can use half-day costumed help for front gate and games

Renaissance Faire Plans Final Big Weekend for 2008 Season!

The Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire will end its 2008 Tenth Anniversary Season on June 8 and 9 with a great lineup of performers including the incomparable MooNiE the Magnif'cent. MooNiE, billed as "Juggler, Rope Walker, Foolish Mortal," is a complex individual who chooses to remain mute to the world and cripple his audience with laughter solely through the use of whistles and gestures.

Also onstage for the final weekend are old favorites 3 Pints Gone, Elvendrums, Pirate Shantyman and Bonnie Lass, and the Limeybirds. Jeff McLane brings The Wit O'Will Shakespeare to the Faire's St. Louis stage in an energetic and unforgettable performance. The Knights of Noble Cause joust on the Field of Honor three times during the Faire day.

Ninety merchants and merchant artisans display period-inspired items for sale. This year's Faire boasts several new food booths, including kabobs and bangers and mash. A cast of 175 volunteers populate the recreated French renaissance village celebrating a visit by King Francois I and his royal court.

The Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire was forced to close its gates Monday, May 26, Memorial Day, for the first time in its ten-year history.

Four feet of water covered the Faire's parking area, carried away a merchant tent, flooded the Faire's two ticket booths, and damaged two bridges. The heavy downpour also created deep gullies throughout the Faire site and its roadways.

Renaissance Faire volunteers were hard at work as soon as access was available to the park on Monday. Generous donations were made of gravel and a skidloader, and Wentzville Parks Department repaired damage to the main roads.

The Faire offers several special coupon promotions. In conjunction with the Community Council of St. Charles County, the Faire offers $2 off gate admission with the donation of a packaged food item to be distributed to area food pantries.

All of the food items donated on May 24 and May 25 were lost in the flooding, so please consider doubling up on your donation to help replace those items. This is a difficult time of the year for food pantries, since it's not the season that people tend to think about those donations. The pantries have been very grateful for the Renaissance Faire's food donations, and we don't want to let them down. Please help out if you can.
